What is the size of the yeast sachet? Amazon sells it by the ounce.

    Normally 1/4 oz. or 2 1/4 teaspoons.

I followed the recipe and the crust was over cooked but the inside of the bread undercooked. Any idea why?

First time I hear this happening Laura, did you preheat the oven and set the right temperature/time?

My question is the flower I'm assuming is all purpose ? Also the recipe does not say warm water ?
    12 Months ago, Thursday, December 28, 2023
    reply
    Eddy
Yes, always all-purpose unless it says different and normal temp water since you are not using active dry yeast.

Do you make the yeast on its own or do you just add all the ingredients like your recipe calls for?
    1 Year ago, Sunday, December 17, 2023
    reply
    Eddy
Since this recipe uses "instant" dry yeast, you just mix it with all the ingredients, please make sure it's "instant dry yeast" and not active dry yeast.

I love having warm bread for breakfast, but don't want to get up early. Can I make the bread the night before and let it rise overnight, and then put it in the oven in the morning? Would this work?
    1 Year ago, Wednesday, November 8, 2023
    reply
    Eddy

Yes, but let it rise, place it in the fridge over night, in the morning remove it from the fridge, and let the dough get to room temperature before baking.

I have made this a couple of times. I read all the comments and followed all directions to the T with instant yeast that was not “dead”. While the flavor is absolutely delicious, I have a problem with the dough “spreading”. It never really forms a firm ball at any part of the process and immediately goes flat and spread on the baking pan and results in a thin flatter loaf (which is devoured all the same haha). Do you have any idea what I am doing incorrectly?

Sorry to hear that Amy, you are doing something wrong but not sure what. Does it rise at all when it’s baking?
    1 Year ago, Sunday, September 24, 2023
    Eddy
Please make sure the dough has the right consistency, maybe add a little less water, you should be able to form it into a ball, if it doesn’t it’s because you added to much water, please remember that water measurements differ for different brands of flour as some react differently. The best way is to use your judgement and add or use less water.

I'm supposed to add the yeast with the dry mix/ not in water before?
    1 Year ago, Monday, July 10, 2023
    reply
    Eddy
That is correct James, because it's instant dry yeast and not active dry yeast, you don't have to proof it.

This is my go to bread recipe 2x week. Day one - have it with onion soup, day 2 - French toast it, day three butter and coffee day 4 - bread pudding. Way peezy, tasty and very filling. Loaf of bread costs $6 here - I mark my bread for less than $1 loaf.

Do I need a Dutch oven to make this bread? What can I use to keep the round form other than a dutch oven?

No you don't Linda, just a regular oven, form a ball and flatten it a little, then make a cross type cut on top.

I just baked your recipe as we have trouble finding good, crusty bread here in Florida. I used a baking stone and the bottom of the bread stuck so no bottom crust. Is the baking stone the problem?

Shawn, most likely, specially if you didn't dust it with flour.
