Tangerine Liqueur (Licor de Tangerina)
Ingredients
7 tangerines
1 quart (4 cups) of 90-proof alcohol (or 45% alcohol, like vodka)
2.2 lbs (about 4 1/2 cups) of sugar
1 quart (4 cups) of water
Preparation
Peel the tangerines and set the peels aside.
Dilute the sugar in warm water.
Pour the syrup into a large container (a gallon jug works well).
Add the tangerine peels and alcohol to the container.
Close the container and leave it in a dark place for 9 days.
Shake the container twice a day during this period.
After 9 days, strain the liqueur and pour it into bottles.
Store the bottles in a dark place.
