15 ripe Golden apples15 cinnamon sticks15 tablespoons of light brown sugar + 5 tablespoons for sprinkling2 cups of Port wine (I used red, but you can use white if preferred)1 cup of dark rum

Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 285°F (140°C).
- Core the apples and place them in a baking dish.
- Insert one cinnamon stick into each apple, and add 1 tablespoon of light brown sugar inside each apple.
- Pour the Port wine and rum over the apples, and sprinkle the remaining sugar on top.
- If you like, you can also sprinkle some ground cinnamon (optional).
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the apples begin to crack.
- Turn off the oven and leave them inside for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, allowing the liquids to turn into a thick, delicious syrup.
- Serve hot or cold.
