Ingredients

7 tangerines1 quart (4 cups) of 90-proof alcohol (or 45% alcohol, like vodka)2.2 lbs (about 4 1/2 cups) of sugar1 quart (4 cups) of water

Preparation

  1. Peel the tangerines and set the peels aside.
  2. Dilute the sugar in warm water.
  3. Pour the syrup into a large container (a gallon jug works well).
  4. Add the tangerine peels and alcohol to the container.
  5. Close the container and leave it in a dark place for 9 days.
  6. Shake the container twice a day during this period.
  7. After 9 days, strain the liqueur and pour it into bottles.
  8. Store the bottles in a dark place.
